Dry Needling
Dry Needling Therapy, also known as Trigger Point Dry Needling or Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling, involves the insertion of thin needles into specific trigger points or tight muscles of the body. Its primary objective is to address myofascial pain, which refers to discomfort originating from muscle and fascial tissue. By targeting trigger points and promoting tissue healing, the therapy aims to enhance muscle function and restore optimal functionality.
During a dry needling session, a physiotherapist carefully inserts thin, solid needles through the skin into the trigger points. Unlike injections, these needles are used solely for stimulating the tissue and do not deliver medication. The patient may experience various sensations such as muscle soreness, aching, or muscle twitching during the needling process, which are generally viewed as positive signs.
The depth and duration of needle placement can vary depending on the specific pain being addressed, with some needles placed deeply and others more superficially. The therapy is tailored to the individual’s needs and the type of pain being treated, aiming to alleviate discomfort and promote recovery.
